Gratitude

I want to talk about the importance of gratitude. When I start with this, the reaction can all too often be "what if nothing is going well in my life" or doubt about the power behind the practice. And that's okay. When you're suffering and everything seems to be against you, the last thing you want to do is follow what seems like a pointless task. But it has had such an impact on my life, so please give it a minute.

It began with daily journalling, where I would simply write two or three things for each of the following; what I am feeling, what I am grateful for, the reasons I love myself and things I can do that day to reach my goals or dreams.

Gratitude needs not be grand or drastic. It's personal. It can be the sun is shining, I have a roof over my head or I got through today and I'm stronger for it. The power lies in changing our perspective and challenging our thoughts on our reality, because that's all they are; thoughts. As soon as we see the power in finding little snippets of joy in the simple things, they soon add up!

The next step is committing to this powerful practice. The inner-critic has a brilliant way of telling you reasons why you shouldn't. Whether that's because you don't have time, it's a silly practice, it won't work anyway and the list goes on. But how do you know unless you give it a try?

There is absolutely no necessity or 'need' to do this practice, it becomes a want. You begin to see the positive effects it can have and that the authentic you, as you are, deserves to soak in all that life really does have to offer, if only we were able to, for a few minutes, stop and see.
